'Cyborg': Ronda Rousey says she can beat Velasquez, then why not fight me?
UFC women's bantamweight champion Ronda Rousey believes in her heart of hearts that given the right circumstances she could beat heavyweight champion Cain Velasquez.
In an interview earlier this week, Rousey said, "It is possible that in any given moment that I could beat him," when speaking about a hypothetical fight with the UFC's best big man.
Invicta FC featherweight champion Cris 'Cyborg' Santos saw Rousey's comments and responded via Facebook wondering why the UFC women's champion seems so willing to challenge a male heavyweight fighter, but still refuses to fight her in the cage at 145 pounds.
Cyborg and Rousey have been in a long-standing war of words about a potential fight, but the UFC's top bantamweight has insisted for months that to take the bout she would require Santos to drop down to 135 pounds. In response, Cyborg has stated time and again that moving down to 135 pounds is physically impossible for her, but considering Rousey competed for a big part of her MMA career at featherweight, the problem should solve itself.
"It's amazing to me that Ronda is talking about beating Cain, who's a heavyweight man. But she won't go to a weight where she has fought other fights at and challenge the best female fighter in the world," Cyborg stated. "Not being cocky but I believe that, this being one athlete at the top and many agree.
"Yet she will put Cain's name in her mouth and not mine. She is a actress after all. Talking about a fantasy fight when there's a super fight right in front of her. Yet she talks about fantasy."
Cyborg currently has one fight left on her deal with Invicta FC and if she wins a fight against Rousey could be the biggest matchup in women's MMA history. Unless something dramatic changes, however, the UFC doesn't seem interested in promoting a super fight at 145 pounds and Rousey has expressed no desire to go back up to featherweight.
Either way, Cyborg is still going to issue the challenge and hope at some point she can get Rousey to accept and put together the fight to determined who truly is the best women's fighter in all of MMA.
