Conor McGregor expected to train close to home for UFC 205 main event

To prepare for his UFC 202 fight against Nate Diaz in August, Conor McGregor pulled out all the stops for his training camp and spent a reported $300,000 to put together a winning team in Las Vegas to get him ready.

Now McGregor will make a quick turn around on Nov. 12 when he faces Eddie Alvarez for the UFC lightweight title, but it appears he'll be staying a little closer to home this time around for his training camp.

Sources close to McGregor told FOX Sports on Tuesday that the current featherweight champion will likely spend the majority of his training camp in Ireland as well as splitting his time in Iceland to prepare for the showdown with Alvarez.

McGregor has typically relocated his training camps to Las Vegas when he's fighting there due to the huge time difference and massive climate change from his home in Ireland where he typically works out of the SBG gym in Dublin. McGregor has also spent time in Iceland previously where he works alongside UFC welterweight Gunnar Nelson and his team.

The weather in New York and Ireland in November are almost identical with the average highs reaching into the 50's with the lows dipping into the 40's.

The fight with Alvarez came together rather quickly so McGregor flew into New York for the UFC 205 press conference on Tuesday and will likely make a quick turnaround to go home to begin his preparation for the fight.

The show takes place on Nov. 12, but that only leaves about five weeks of preparation time between now and then for both fighters to get ready.

Alvarez already trains locally with his camp set up between his home in Philadelphia and his current team in New Jersey where he works alongside former lightweight champion Frankie Edgar as well as head boxing coach Mark Henry.
