CM Punk Says He 'Carried' WWE on His Shoulders
CM Punk is claiming he carried WWE on his shoulders.
CM Punk’s UFC debut has been nearly two years in the making. He left WWE in January 2014, and later resurfaced at UFC 183. The MMA company announced they had signed him to a contract to fight, but it had been unknown when this would happen.
Well, nearly two years later, Punk is about to compete in the octagon. He will face Mickey Gall at UFC 203 on Saturday, September 10.
In the days before the fight, Punk has been doing media rounds. He recently had a conference call, where a question about the differences between UFC and WWE. The former Straight Edge Superstar has never held back on the latter company, and continued doing the same, according to Uproxx.
“Carrying an entire company on your shoulders, for lack of a better description — after a while, it sucks. This is more relaxed, focus on yourself. I’m not worrying about what everyone else is doing. I’m not worried about pay-per-view numbers and buyrates and ratings and merchandise sales. I focus on one thing and one thing only, and that’s myself.”
The comment that will stick out is the claim of him “carrying an entire company”. It should be noted Punk shared this time with John Cena and his 400-plus Make-A-Wish grants, over a dozen world title reigns, and company face. Punk played a large role as well, but never in the spotlight that The Face That Runs the Place held.
CM Punk is getting what he wants, though, and that’s to focus on himself. The attention will be on him at UFC 203, as MMA and wrestling fans may anticipate what the longtime wrestler can do in the octagon. Will his two years of training be enough to defeat Gall? Or will he suffer defeat in his first bout?
