Carmouche vs. Davis video highlights
Alexis Davis was looking to make the most of her second appearance inside the Octagon.
Though she emerged from her debut with a unanimous decision victory, the talented Canadian fighter wasn’t overly happy with her performance. She wanted to make a statement, and failed to do so, but looked at her bout with former title challenger Liz Carmouche as a second chance to make a strong impression.
Half of her face painted in blood due to a cut over her right eye, Davis made an emphatic statement in Wednesday’s UFC Fight For The Troops co-main event.
From the outset, the 29-year-old Ontario native was the aggressor, bringing the fight to the ex-Marine Carmouche, beating up her opponent’s lead leg with a steady diet of forceful inside leg kicks. As her focused assault on Carmouche’s limb started to slow the former title challenger down, Davis continued to press forward behind her strikes, landing clean shots both in space and in the clinch along the cage.
A well-placed right hand opened Davis up midway through the second, but it didn’t slow her down, as the Brazilian jiu-jitsu black belt continued her assault on Carmouche through to the final bell.
The victory makes Davis the second women’s bantamweight fighter to earn two wins inside the Octagon, joining Amanda “Lioness” Nunes, who had accomplished the feat earlier in the evening.
Long viewed as a legitimate contender, Davis’ dominant performance against Carmouche vaults her into the thick of the title chase, and could even land her next in line to face the winner of the upcoming championship clash between rivals Ronda Rousey and Miesha Tate at UFC 168.
