Cain Velasquez's coach: Fabricio Werdum has no chance at UFC 188

Heavyweight champion Cain Velasquez told us last week that he's confident his pace and pressure will bring him victory against Fabricio Werdum, this Saturday at UFC 188. The fighter's head trainer, Javier Mendez, recently told Dave Meltzer the same, but added some stank onto his comments.

"[Cain is] going to kill him," he said.

"I'm very confident in this one...Werdum has no chance."

The American Kickboxing Academy coach still believes that Velasquez and the man he's fought three times, Junior dos Santos, are at the top of the UFC's heavyweight heap. According to Mendez, there's Cain, JDS, and then there's everyone else.

Werdum, interim title or not, is lumped into the "everyone else" category by Cain's camp. "Cain's going to do what he wants to do with him," Mendez continued.

"Junior dos Santos is still the biggest threat to Cain Velasquez. In all respect to the other guys, Cain and Junior are at another level. I'm stating facts. Come June 13, Werdum can prove us wrong. But, I don't think he will."

No one can deny that Werdum has gone on a tear in recent years, and that he's become quite well-rounded. No longer just one of the world's best submission grapplers, the Brazilian can also stun with his strikes on the feet.

None of that matters, according to Mendez. Werdum won't be able to handle the way Cain plans to come forward in Mexico City.

"Werdum is not going to be able to handle the intensity," Mendez concluded.

"He's not going to be able to handle the cardio. His best chance is a knockout or a submission. He can't win a decision. Nobody can beat Cain in a decision."
