Alexander Volkov signs with UFC, faces Timothy Johnson at UFN 99
Longtime Bellator MMA fighter Alexander Volkov has made the transition to the UFC and will debut against Timothy Johnson at UFC Fight Night 99.
There’s been many Bellator MMA fighters who have made the transition to the UFC, especially recently. Notable fighters are Eddie Alvarez, Will Brooks, and Marcin Held. Many of these fighters feel that the UFC has the best competition in the sport and they want to test themselves at the highest level.
With the continuing trend of signing new fighters to the promotion, a new heavyweight fighter has been added to the UFC roster. Russian fighter Alexander Volkov has signed with the UFC, according to MMA Fighting.
In his UFC debut, he will be facing three-fight UFC veteran Timothy Johnson. This is a great test for both fighters. None have really faced many people at the top level, but this is a good fight to see where their place is in the division.
Volkov has faced the best fighters the heavyweight division has to offer outside of the UFC. He has fought notable names, such as Brett Rogers, Vitaly Minakov, Chieck Kongo, and Attila Vegh. Those were all very tough fights, but expect him to even more difficult fights in the UFC, which is one of the main reasons he wanted to fight in the promotion in the first place.
Prior to making his UFC debut, Johnson was 8-1 in his MMA career and was riding a seven fight win streak. In his UFC debut, he faced Shamil Abdurakhimov and finished him late in the first round. He lost a close decision to Jared Rosholt after, but is coming off of a nice win over Marcin Tybura this past April. He will look to stay in his winning ways against Volkov.
UFC Fight Night 99 will go down on November 19 and will be headlined by Dong Hyun Kim vs. Gunnar Nelson.
