Adrien Broner's remarks about MMA

Published Sep. 11, 2013 1:00 a.m. ET

WBA Welterweight Champion Adrien Broner recently offered up his opinion on MMA and in not-so-surprising news, he's not a big fan.

"I'm really not too big on MMA. I really don't look at it as a real sport because anybody can come into MMA and learn that. You can learn that," Broner said, "Listen, you can't just come in to boxing and be a world champion. You've got to be born with it."

"Like you," Broner addressed the interviewer, "Right now, you can go into MMA, learn all the submission moves and be a world champion. It doesn't matter how long it takes. I don't give a f*** what you do, you can try to come over to boxing, and you won't ever be a world champion."

As it turns out, Broner may have poked the bear a bit too much, as he has since issued an apology via Twitter.

Was Broner's apology sincere? Maybe not, but as long as the UFC continues to bring in new, youthful fans the sport will inevitably grow to a point where it's universally respected by other athletes.

UPDATE: What did Dana White have to say about Broner's apology?
