MONTPELLIER, France -- Second-seeded Gilles Simon advanced to the quarterfinals of the Open Sud de France with a 6-3, 6-3 win over fellow Frenchman Edouard Roger-Vasselin on Wednesday.
Simon broke his opponent five times and will next face either big-serving Jerzy Janowicz of Poland or Frenchman Benoit Paire.
Seventh-seeded Joao Sousa also progressed after rallying to beat Tobias Kamke of Germany 4-6, 6-4, 6-3.
In first round action, Malek Jaziri of Tunisia quit after winning the first set 6-3 against sixth-seeded Denis Istomin, citing an elbow injury.
