Germany captain Carsten Arriens leaves Davis Cup squad

Published Feb. 3, 2015 11:33 a.m. ET

FRANKFURT, Germany (AP) Germany is looking for a new Davis Cup captain after the departure of Carsten Arriens, one month before a World Group match against France.

Arriens and the German Tennis Federation officially parted ways by ''mutual agreement,'' although the captain had clashed with new federation president Ulrich Klaus and Germany's top-ranked player Philipp Kohlschreiber.

Arriens kicked Kohlschreiber off the team after he had refused to play a meaningless last singles match in an already decided tie against Spain last year.

Klaus wanted Arriens and Kohlschreiber to settle their differences but Arriens skipped a scheduled meeting with Kohlschreiber during the Australian Open.
