Wolfsburg signs defender Pogatetz from Hannover

Wolfsburg has signed Austria defender Emanuel Pogatetz from Bundesliga rival Hannover on a three-year contract.

Wolfsburg coach Felix Magath said on Wednesday the 29-year-old Pogatetz is ''an experienced player who can organize a defense.''

Magath's team finished eighth in the 18-club top division last season. It had the worst defensive record in the Bundesliga's top half, conceding 60 goals.

The club gave no details on the transfer fee. Pogatetz previously played at Middlesbrough and Spartak Moscow.
