Westermann set to join Hamburg

Germany defender Heiko Westermann is set to leave Schalke and join Bundesliga rival Hamburger SV.

Hamburg reported the transfer Wednesday but later withdrew the report, saying Westermann still had to clarify some details with Schalke before signing the new contract.

Westermann passed a medical and is expected to report to Hamburg's training camp by tomorrow.

The defender missed the World Cup with an ankle injury.
