A topflight league match between Rapid Vienna and Austria Vienna has been abandoned after Rapid fans invaded the pitch in the first half with their team losing 2-0 in the city derby.
Players from both sides fled to the changing rooms at the sold-out 19,600-capacity Hanappi Stadium when the supporters rushed onto the field in the 26th minute in Sunday's match.
The match was interrupted for 30 minutes before referee Thomas Einwaller called it off.
Einwaller told Austrian television he made his decision ''because the safety of the players could not be guaranteed.''
There were no injuries from the incident.
