Uruguay defender Diego Godin has acquired Spanish nationality, freeing up an extra space for foreigners at his club Atletico Madrid.
Godin helped Uruguay win the Copa America with a 3-0 final win over Paraguay on Sunday, before flying back to Madrid and completing the process to acquire dual nationality on Thursday, his club says.
Godin joins fellow Uruguayan Diego Forlan, Brazilian Filipe Luis and Colombian Luis Amaranto Perea as members of Atletico's squad that have dual nationality.
Argentina striker Sergio Aguero, the former Atletico player who has just signed for Manchester City for about 38 million pounds ($62 million), also has Spanish nationality.
