United reportedly ready to let De Gea leave to join Real Madrid

Man United are reportedly ready to let David de Gea join Real Madrid for £25million after admitting the transfer saga is "causing a problem".

The 24-year-old goalkeeper has been linked with a move to Real all summer, with United previously insisting that any deal for the Spain international would have to see Real defender Sergio Ramos moving the other way.

However, with Ramos now set to sign a new contract and stay at the Bernabeu, it was thought that neither player would move on this summer.

De Gea has a year left on his United deal, and with his reluctance to extend his stay, United have been resigned to losing the keeper either this summer or next - when he'd be entitled to leave Old Trafford as a free agent.

De Gea produced a 'distracted' performance earlier this week when United were beaten 2-0 by Paris Saint-Germain in the final game of their tour of the United States, before the goalkeeper was withdrawn at half-time.

And reports in AS on Saturday suggest it is that performance - together with his unwillingness to sign a new deal and general unhappiness with life at Old Trafford - that has convinced United boss Louis van Gaal and the club to cash in on their star goalkeeper now.

"We have a situation that is not favorable for David De Gea, neither for us and neither for the club that, maybe, he wants to go," said Van Gaal after the defeat to PSG.

AS go on to report that Van Gaal has urged the United board to sanction the sale as soon as possible to allow him time to bring in a replacement, with Hugo Lloris of Tottenham or Jasper Cillessen both reportedly under consideration.

De Gea, who joined United in a £17.8million deal from Atletico Madrid in the summer of 2011, is expected to command a fee of around £25million.

United signed Sergio Romero on a free transfer earlier this week, while the future of another goalkeeper, Victor Valdes, remains uncertain.
