A-League football's all-time leading goalscorer Archie Thompson has signed a three-year contract extension with the Melbourne Victory, ensuring he will remain in the Australian league through 2014.

Thompson, 32, has been sidelined with a knee injury since last season's grand final but has now regained fitness and may play for the Victory in Saturday's home match against Gold Coast.

He has been a key figure in Melbourne's two championship victories since the league's inception and said he would never consider moving to another club. He leads the A-League's all-time scoring list with 49 goals.
