Asian champions Pohang Steelers took third place at the Club World
Cup after beating Mexican club Atlante 4-3 on penalties on
Saturday.
With the match having finished 1-1 after 90 minutes, Kim
Hyun-gil clinched it for the South Koreans after Atlante had missed
twice in the shootout, with Rafael Marquez's spot-kick being saved
and Horacio Peralta hitting the post in front of 17,800 at the
Zayed Sports City stadium.
Steelers had taken the lead three minutes before halftime
when Denilson scored his competition-best fourth goal, the
Brazilian striker firing low into the corner of the net.
The CONCACAF champions equalized one minute after the
restart, with Marquez tucking an angled shot inside the far post.
