Saido Berahino must respect West Brom, says James Morrison

James Morrison says the West Brom squad understand Saido Berahino's motives for wanting to join Tottenham - but says the forward must now respect the club having failed to secure a move to White Hart Lane.

Berahino was the subject of several bids from Tottenham during the summer transfer window and he attempted to force through a move by submitting a written transfer request, as well as declaring in a tweet his intention to never play for West Brom chairman Jeremy Peace again.

The 22-year-old was given extra time off by the club in the wake of the transfer saga, but returned to training on Monday and took part in a 90-minute session. He has also been included in manager Tony Pulis' Premier League squad.

"I am sure Tony will have a chat with him. Tony is a good man and he's a wise man as well, he'll guide him through it and I am sure he'll come out the other side," Morrison told Sky Sports News HQ.

"I think we do [understand]. You can't knock him for wanting to go to Tottenham, but he should respect the club as they've been with him since a young age."

Morrison also remains confident Berahino will be able to put the disruption of the past few weeks behind him and concentrate fully on matters on the pitch.

"He's done it before, so I look forward to having a chat with him and help guide him to get back on track and do what he does best, which is score goals and perform," the 29-year-old added.

West Brom resume Premier League action against Southampton at the Hawthorns on Saturday, but it is still unclear whether Berahino will be considered for selection.
