South Africa drew 0-0 with Algeria in its final warmup game before hosting the African Cup of Nations.

Neither team was impressive in a tame contest watched by less than 20,000 people at Soweto's Orlando Stadium on Saturday.

South Africa opens the African Cup in a week's time at the nearby Soccer City.

Algeria midfielder Hameur Bouazza shot over the crossbar early, while Katlego Mphela had South Africa's best chance of the first half when his effort was blocked by goalkeeper Rais Mbohli in the 39th minute.

Bernard Parker curled a shot that Mbohli dived to push away from the left corner on the brink of halftime.

Islam Slimani missed two chances for the Algerians early in the second half, leaving both teams to look ahead to the African Cup.
