FOXBOROUGH, Mass. (AP) New England Revolution defender Chris Tierney will miss the remainder of the Major League Soccer season with a torn anterior cruciate ligament in his right knee.

The 11-year veteran was injured Wednesday's match against Atlanta United FC. The team said he is expected to undergo surgery in the next few weeks and need nine months to recover.

Tierney is the longest tenured field player ever for the Revolution, ranking third in franchise history with 246 MLS appearances and 40 assists.
