Reported Barca target Ter Stegen bids tearful farewell to Gladbach
Marc-Andre ter Stegen bid a tearful farewell to Borussia Monchengladbach's fans on Saturday before, during and after his final appearance for the club on home soil.
The Germany international is believed to have reached an agreement with Barcelona over a transfer this summer, but Saturday's 3-1 win over Mainz was an emotional occasion for the 22-year-old who has been with the club since the age of four.
"I'm going to miss the stadium, the fans, the club, many people who are in the club, and of course my friends," Ter Stegen told reporters afterwards.
"It was a very emotional game for me and I was delighted with the fans' support."
Ter Stegen has just one game left in Gladbach colors before moving on, yet he says he is in no rush to reveal where he will be plying his trade next season.
"I don't want to steal the limelight," he said. "I could say where I'm going whenever I want, but I always said I wanted to focus on the situation with Borussia.
"It was important to me that Borussia will be playing in Europe next week, and now we've done that."
Before he will reveal all, though, he first wants to see whether Gladbach are going to be playing in the Champions League or the Europa League.
The Foals trail fourth-placed Bayer Leverkusen by three points, and a win over Wolfsburg on the final weekend of the season could see them bridge that gap.
"We still have one important game to come," Ter Stegen said. "We can do all the rest in our own time after the season's ended."
