Red Bulls strike early to beat Revolution 4-1
HARRISON, New Jersey (AP) Bradley Wright-Phillips scored twice and created another in the first 12 minutes, and the New York Red Bulls beat the New England Revolution 4-1 in Major League Soccer on Saturday.
Wright-Phillips headed home Lloyd Sam's cross in the fourth minute, and then helped set up Sam's low hard finish into the left corner five minutes later. Wright-Phillips capped the blistering opening with his second to give the Red Bulls a 3-0 lead.
Andy Dorman got one back for the Revolution in the 37th minute, but Anthony Wallace also restored the three-goal lead for the Red Bulls in the 56th minute.
Jason Johnson drove a left-footed shot into the far corner of the net in the second minute of stoppage time, lifting the Eastern Conference bottom-placed Chicago Fire to an unlikely 1-0 victory over the Western Conference co-leading Seattle Sounders.
The decisive sequence started when Johnson and Michael Stephens raced down the right side on a counterattack. Johnson ran ahead of Stephens, who delivered a sharp pass to the top right corner of the box. Johnson stepped inside two defenders and his rasping left-foot shot beat Seattle goalie Troy Perkins into the far corner.
Mauro Diaz and David Texeira scored to lead FC Dallas to a 2-0 win over Orlando City SC.
In first-half stoppage time, Fabian Castillo drew a foul in the penalty area and Diaz calmly buried the penalty kick to open the scoring.
Orlando thought it had the equalizer in the 56th minute, but Pedro Ribeiro's goal was ruled out for offside.
Dallas struck again in the 64th minute. Castillo's through ball found Victor Ulloa, who played in Texeira to finish past Tally Hall.
Carlos Rivas missed a penalty kick in the 89th minute for Orlando City, which was missing the suspended Kaka after the Brazilian playmaker was sent off in last week's 1-1 draw with Real Salt Lake
The Montreal Impact beat the Columbus Crew 3-0, with Dominic Oduro scoring a double.
Marco Donadel also scored for the Impact as it improved to 21 points to sit two points outside the playoff positions.
Also Saturday, Vincent Nogueira scored a brace in the Philadelphia Union's 3-0 rout of the Portland Timbers. Late goals by Drew Moor, Jared Watts and Juan Ramirez lifted the Colorado Rapids to a 3-1 win over Real Salt Lake.
