The Asian Football Confederation has announced that it fined Qatar $2,000 for refusing to bring a player to an Asian Cup news conference.
The AFC in a statement Thursday said the fine referred to the failure by the 2022 World Cup host to send the player to a Jan. 6 press conference before its match against Uzbekistan. A complaint against Qatar's coach Bruno Metsu for ''nonfulfillment of media obligations) has been sent to its disciplinary committee, it said.
North Korea and Iraq had been earlier cited for the same violation while Saudi Arabia looks to be added to the list after it failed to send a player to its news conference. It was unclear the status of those cases.
