BREMEN, Germany (AP) Portugal striker Hugo Almeida is returning to the Bundesliga to reunite with coach Thomas Schaaf at relegation-threatened Hannover.
Almeida played 3 1/2 seasons for Werder Bremen under Schaaf until 2010 and scored 41 goals in in 117 matches.
Hannover is next-to-last in the Bundesliga. Schaaf was hired after Michael Frontzeck quit at the start of the winter break in December. The Bundesliga resumes next weekend.
After leaving Bremen, Almeida played for Besiktas Istanbul, Cesena and Kuban Krasnodar, before terminating his contract with Anzhi Makhachkala earlier this week.
Hannover did not give the length of his contract but Kicker magazine said Almeida signed until the end of the next season.
