Poland's prime minister says he will make sure that some two dozen Lazio fans detained in Warsaw last week ahead of Europa League match are treated without unnecessary severity.
The police detained more than 150 Italians last week before the Lazio match with Legia Warsaw, saying they were throwing bottles and stones at police vans. Some 20 remain under arrest and Italian authorities are pressing to have them provisionally released pending court trials.
Standing alongside Italian Premier Enrico Letta, Donald Tusk told a news conference on Thursday that he will ask justice authorities to make sure that the Italians are treated with the ''least possible severity'' but that wrongdoers must face ''just punishment.''
Poland has a problem with football hooligans and police often step up their presence for big games.
