Everton midfielder Steven Pienaar has won South Africa's player of the year award for 2009. Pienaar was voted the national team's best player in a text message vote by fans. Mamelodi Sundowns' Siboniso Gaxa and Macbeth Sibaya of Russian team Rubin Kazan finished second and third.
