ATHENS, Greece (AP) Panathinaikos won 1-0 at Xanthi on Saturday thanks to a late goal by defender Rasmus Thelander.
Thelander rose above the Xanthi defense to head home a corner in the 83rd minute for his first goal in the Greek league
The win allowed Panathinaikos to provisionally catch up to archrival and defending champion Olympiakos at the top of the standings. Olympiakos, which has a perfect record after five games, travels to Thessaloniki to face third-place PAOK on Sunday.
Also Saturday, Panionios scored four goals in the first 24 minutes en route to a 5-1 dismantling of host Panetolikos and Asteras came from 1-0 down with seven minutes to go to win 3-1 at Panthrakikos.
