Fiorentina midfielder Riccardo Montolivo has been ruled out for up to six weeks after undergoing surgery on an ankle injury.
Montolivo had an operation in Amsterdam to remove a bone fragment from his ankle, his club Fiorentina confirmed on their official website.
The 25-year-old, who will return to Florence on Wednesday to begin his rehabilitation, will be out for between five and six weeks.
He will miss Italy's friendly with Romania next Wednesday.
