Chilean striker Humberto Suazo scored twice as Monterrey defeated Santos 3-0 on Sunday to win the Mexican Apertura title 5-3 on aggregate.

Suazo, who returned to Mexico after a six-month stint with Zaragoza in Spain, scored in the 28th and 85th minutes as Rayados won the Mexican crown for the fourth time in their history and second in the last three seasons.

Argentine defender Jose Maria Basanta also scored in the 72nd for a Monterrey team that also has titles in the Mexico 1986 tournament, the Clausura in 2003 and the Apertura 2009.

Santos, which was also the runner-up in May in the Clausura final, wasted a 3-2 lead from the first leg on its home pitch.

The victory was the seventh Mexican league title for Monterrey coach Victor Manuel Vucetich, who is known as the "King Midas" of Mexican football. He has won two titles with Monterrey, three with Leon and one each with Tecos and Pachuca.

Vucetich was the leading candidate to take over Mexico's national team almost two months ago, but he turned down the job for what he said were personal reasons. The job eventually went to Jose Manuel De la Torre.

On the flip side was Santos coach Ruben Omar Romano, who lost his second straight Mexican final and the fourth of his career.

Monterrey dictated most of the play in the first half and Suazo capitalized with a 22-meter (yard) shot following a pass from Walter Ayovi of Ecuador.

Suazo's second goal was the most spectacular of the match. He took a pass from Ayovi in midfield, dribbled about 30 meters (yards) and then scored from inside the area.
