Villa, who host Norwich on Saturday, are lying in mid-table and remained unbeaten in the Premier League until early October. But McLeish believes Villa have thrown points away in a repeat of last season when they surrendered 25 from winning positions in games. He said: "I am pleased with the improvement in the squad and the group and I do believe some can improve even further. "But I am a bit frustrated with the league table. I think we should be four points better off, at least. "That's down to that ruthlessness and mental toughness to see things through and get that strength to go over the line in certain moments. "I think there have been a lot of good performances collectively and individually. Last weekend was as good as I have seen us this season. "I want the guys to have a real winning mentality. I want them to go to the end every game, every week and we also want to attack teams but it's not a compromise between attack and defend. "There has been a 50-50 measure. We want to be equally good defensively. Teams that don't lose goals are normally the teams that triumph in the end." Midfielder Barry Bannan has been included in the squad for the first time since being suspended by Villa after he was arrested on suspicion of drink-driving. He said: "We have suspended the investigation and Barry is back in the fold. He's in the squad. "We have welcomed him back into the squad so I don't see any need to punish him further. "Listen, he's made a mistake and it's a bad one and he will learn from that. "He is able to join us again for full training and get on with his life again of playing football." McLeish is a big admirer of Canaries boss Paul Lambert, who played under him when in charge of Motherwell. He said: "You never really think players, when you are managing them, are going to go into the same profession as you. "But I think Paul was turned on to the coaching and management after his spell with Dortmund, doing extremely well there in the Champions League, then coming back to Celtic and playing for Scotland. "That whetted his appetite to stay in the game. I'm not sure when he was at Motherwell that he had those kind of dreams or game plan but he certainly took to management fantastically." On-loan Tottenham midfielder Jermaine Jenas is in contention after finally putting thigh and Achilles problems behind him.
