TP Mazembe of Congo retained the African Champions League title despite drawing with Tunisia's Esperance 1-1 in the second leg of the final at November 7 Stadium on Saturday.

Mazembe won the first leg 5-0 two weeks ago, and never looked like conceding that many as Esperance played out the last hour with only 10 men after Aymen Ben Amor was red-carded for slapping a Mazembe player.

Esperance scored first thanks to midfielder Harrison Afful's header after 23 minutes, and Mazembe couldn't take advantage of its extra man until the 69th, when Kanda Mukok equalized.

Mazembe's fourth African title, following victories in 1967, '68 and 2009, earned it a return to the Club World Cup in December. Last year it finished sixth.

Following Esperance's only African title in 1994, it has finished runner-up for a third time.
