Marshall extends Villa stay
Although the 35-year-old has never played a first-team game he will now continue into his third season with the club. Marshall, who began his career at Norwich before enjoying spells at Ipswich, Millwall and Coventry has held down the number two slot at Villa Park behind Brad Friedel since January. And the former England Under-21 international says he is delighted to sign up for another 12 months. He told the club's official website: "This is a fantastic club to be at. To be able to renew my contract and get a third year, I am absolutely delighted. "I've been fortunate enough to be sat behind Brad Friedel for the last two years and hopefully now I can push on and see if I can get to the next level. "As a footballer you want to be part of the matchday situations, whether you are playing or as a substitute. "Everyone wants to play but being behind Brad you also have to be realistic of the level he is playing at. "The opportunity isn't going to come along very easily. I have just enjoyed being involved with the boys and being back in matchday situations."
