The head of Libya's Football Federation says it has signed a 4-year contract with Brazilian coach Marcos Paqueta to lead the national team.

Salah al-Arabi said Friday that Paqueta will take charge on July 25. His main challenge will be to secure Libya's qualification for the African Cup of Nations in 2012.

The 51-year-old Paqueta coached Saudi Arabia at the 2006 World Cup. He has also managed club sides in the Middle East and his native Brazil, and coached Brazil's under-17 and under-20 teams to world titles in 2003.

Libya is currently No. 96 in the FIFA rankings. The country failed to qualify for this year's African Cup of Nations or the World Cup in South Africa.
