Manchester City Record Watch: Aguero moves up the All-Time Goal Scoring List

Published Jun. 30, 2017 6:28 p.m. ET

With six goals already this season, Sergio Aguero moves up the all-time list of Manchester City goal scorers. How far does he have to make the top?

Before the 16/17 season kicked off we looked at where Sergio Aguero stood among Manchester City’s all-time leading goal scorers. He is already on top of the Champions League goals and Premier League goals. But considering those are still relatively young competitions, the true list is the aggregate category of all goals across all competitions.

Aguero’s fast start to the year has seen him raise his tally to 142 career City goals. That pushes him up from 8th place into 7th, surpassing Tommy Browell. Don’t worry I had to look him up as well. Browell scored a career total of 139 goals during his time at City. He played for Manchester City between 1913 and 1926, appearing 222 times.

Already into 7th place at only 28 years old, Aguero has the chance to become City’s greatest goal scorer of all-time. Next up on the list for Sergio is former City player Francis Lee. Lee played for the club during the 60s and 70s, netting 148 times. At his current rate Aguero should catch and pass him for 6th by sometime in October.

Predicting This Season

So how far can Aguero climb this season? Barring injury Sergio scores about 30 goals a season across all competitions. After seeing his early form and Pep’s system there is no reason that streak shouldn’t continue. That would give him 166 goals for City at the end of the 16/17 season. If he hits that mark he would be tied for 2nd place with Tommy Johnson.

Predicting Breaking The Record

The current record holder is Eric Brook at 177 goals. The record has stood since 1940 – 76 years ago! Sergio is on pace to become City’s greatest sometime in the first half of the 17/18 season. Expect a lot of build up as it gets closer and Sergio cements his place as a Manchester City legend.
