Manchester City 'Invincibles' Talk Coming Way Too Early
Manchester City are off to a flying start winning ten straight in all competitions, but talk of an ‘Invincibles’ season is coming way too early.
Pep Guardiola has Manchester City off to one of the best starts in its history. Ten wins from 10 matches in all competitions, including six straight in the Premier League, sees the Blues top of the league. It isn’t just the wins, but the matter of which Pep’s side have been dispatching teams that talk of an “Invincible” season has begun.
Granted most of this talk has been in the very early stages, but the fact they’re being made at all is ridiculous. The Sun spoke with Arsenal legend Ian Wright who said, “if there is a team that could be Invincible…. maybe it is City.” There was also a report from the Manchester Evening News reporting on the betting odds of City doing the unthinkable.
While all these plaudits are wonderfully exciting for City supporters to read, in the end this talk in simply coming far too soon. Firstly, City have yet to play several teams sure to challenge for the title this year. Chelsea, Tottenham, Arsenal, and Liverpool all await Guardiola’s men.

Secondly, despite playing 10 games in just over a month, Pep has yet to experience to true congestion that is the English Premier League schedule. It’s important to remember Pep has always had a winter break in Spain and Germany, meanwhile the fixtures come thick and fast around that time in England.
This doesn’t mean that I believe City will go on long losing streaks. In fact I could see City keeping its loss total to under three, but there are losses in its schedule. Trips to Liverpool, Tottenham, and Arsenal must be looked at with the most scrutiny. Remember too, the Premier League has no easy games — the opening day 2-1 victory over Sunderland saw Pep learn that lesson nice and early.

October will be another big test for Guardiola and City. The loss of Kevin De Bruyne for potentially four weeks mean that test just got a lot harder. Trips to both Tottenham, Barcelona, and Manchester United, as well as a tricky home tie against Everton will tax City’s depth.
Pep demands perfection, but even he knows that winning four trophies is an impossible task. One should assume he believes an “Invincible” season is also quite impossible. For now, City fans should be excited that the team is 10 for 10 and looking to make it eleven in a row midweek at Celtic Park.
