ELMA, N.Y. --

Aaron Lines has stepped down as coach of the Western New York Flash, the National Women's Soccer League team has announced.

Lines will remain with the Flash in a management position. The move was announced Tuesday, and follows a season in which the Flash went 6-9-5 and missed the playoffs for a second consecutive year.

The suburban Buffalo-based Flash has finished seventh in the nine-team league in each of the past two seasons.

Lines coached the Flash for seven seasons, dating to when the franchise was a member of the developmental W-League. In 2011, he coached a team that included international stars Carli Lloyd, Christine Sinclair and Marta to win the Women's Professional Soccer league championship.
