MUNICH (AP) Bayern Munich striker Robert Lewandowski says he is a ''long way'' from club great Gerd Mueller's Bundesliga record of 40 goals in a season.

Lewandowski, who has 13 goals from 11 league games so far, says ''if I have 30 goals and there are still seven games to the end of the season - then you have perhaps a chance.''

Five of the Poland captain's Bundesliga goals came in a nine-minute spell against Wolfsburg.

Mueller, who scored 365 goals in 427 Bundesliga games, set the 40-goal record in 1971-72. Bayern announced last month that the former West Germany great, who turns 70 on Tuesday, is suffering from Alzheimer's disease.

Lewandowski says ''he's a legend. When you look at the records you often see his name. It shows what a great player he was.''
