New Aston Villa signing Brett Holman has been voted Player of the Year by his peers in Australia's professional footballers association.

The 28-year-old midfielder, signed by Aston Villa in March after after playing for four years for the Dutch club AZ Alkmaar, polled 270 votes to win the title from Japan-based striker Alex Brosque and Reading goalkeeper Adam Federici.

He was also named International Player of the Year for the second-straight year by the Australian Football Media Association.

Holman has played for Australia since 2006 but missed its recent World Cup qualifying matches against Oman and Japan while awaiting the birth of his second child.
