Watford defender Tommie Hoban underwent surgery in America on Monday in a bid to resolve his troublesome ankle injury.
The highly-regarded teenager has been out of action since February when he made his last of 19 appearances this term in a 2-2 draw against Crystal Palace at Vicarage Road.
With no sign of the problem easing after more than two months on the sidelines, Hoban travelled to New York to go under the knife earlier this week and will remain in the US until this weekend.
He will then return to Hertfordshire to start his rehabilitation with the Hornets.
