Greece's Papastathopoulos joins Werder Bremen

Greece defender Sokratis Papastathopoulos is joining Bundesliga club Werder Bremen on a one-season loan from Genoa.

Bremen said Thursday that it has an option to buy the 23-year-old player once the loan is finished. Papastathopoulos played for AC Milan last season.

Bremen struggled last season, finishing 13th in the 18-team top division and conceding 61 goals.
