Frontzeck quits as coach of Bundesliga side Hannover

HANNOVER, Germany --

Michael Frontzeck resigned on Monday as coach of struggling Hannover, the Bundesliga club said.

Frontzeck quit at the start of the month-long winter break in the German league. Hannover lost 1-0 to leader Bayern Munich on Saturday, in the final match before the break. It was Hannover's sixth home loss of the season and dropped the club to next-to-last in the standings, one point above Hoffenheim.

In a statement, Frontzeck said ''I don't feel I have the support anymore'' from the club.

Frontzeck took over in April with only five matches remaining in the season and saved Hannover from relegation.

''We achieved something great in the past season. It was only possible because we all joined forces and everybody supported the team and the coaching staff,'' Frontzeck said.

No successor was immediately named.
