Serbia's president has pardoned former Red Star player Dragan Dzajic from charges that he illegally received millions from the sale of players.

President Tomislav Nikolic gave no explanation for the move which will end an ongoing trial against Dzajic. The president's office said Friday the decision formally will take effect in a few days.

Dzajic and the club's two other ex-officials were charged with illegally receiving about ?10 million ($12.7 million) from the sale of four former Red Star players to foreign clubs, including Manchester United defender Nemanja Vidic.

Dzajic on Wednesday succeeded Vladan Lukic as Red Star president. Lukic said he could no longer cope with a string of poor results and the debt of about ?60 million ($76 million).
