Hibernian manager Pat Fenlon has left his role at the Scottish Premiership club, two days after a humiliating home loss to fierce Edinburgh rival Hearts.

Disillusioned Hibs fans were calling for the dismissal of Fenlon after Wednesday's 1-0 defeat in the League Cup quarterfinals to a Hearts side that is 15 points adrift at the bottom of the league.

Hibs announced the departure of Fenlon on the club's official Twitter account Friday, with Fenlon saying ''it is a difficult decision for me, but it is the right decision.''

Hibernian is seventh in the 12-team Premiership, having finished in the bottom half over the past two seasons. Fenlon spent two years in charge at Easter Road and guided the team to successive Scottish Cup finals, losing on both occasions.
