Brazilian club Coritiba says it has reached a deal to hire former Fenerbahce playmaker Alex.

The announcement was made Wednesday before the team's Brazilian league match against Nautico in Curitiba. He is expected to sign a two-year deal, with his official introduction to fans set for Thursday.

Alex started playing professionally with Coritiba but played most of his career in Turkey with Fenerbahce, where he was a fan favorite. His contract with the club ended a few weeks ago because of a dispute with the coach.

The 35-year-old midfielder was in Brazil's team which won the 1999 and the 2004 Copa Americas.
