Chelsea picks Bertrand for Champions League debut
Chelsea has handed 22-year-old defender Ryan Bertrand his Champions League debut in the final against Bayern Munich on Saturday.
Chelsea interim coach Roberto di Matteo selected Bertrand to play in front of left-back Ashley Cole to help resist Bayern's strong right flank.
Bertrand, an England Under-21 international, and Salomon Kalou replace suspended pair Ramires and Raul Meireles in Chelsea's midfield.
Central defenders David Luiz and Gary Cahill have overcome hamstring injuries to replace John Terry and Branislav Ivanovic, who are also suspended.
Bayern coach Jupp Heynckes picked Anatoliy Tymoshchuk and Diego Contento to replace suspended defenders Holger Badstuber and David Alaba.
Thomas Mueller starts in an attacking midfield role, pushing Toni Kroos deeper into the holding role normally taken by Luis Gustavo, who is also suspended.
