Botafogo failed to move into the top three of the Brazilian Campeonato after a 2-2 draw with Bahia.
It was Bahia, languishing towards the lower reaches of the table, who took a surprise lead through Rodrigo De Souza in the 28th minute.
However, they were reduced to 10 men 11 minutes later when Santos Helder was sent off.
Two goals in three minutes by Alex and Correa Caio saw Botafogo turn the match on its head but Bahia levelled again with a little under half an hour remaining when De Souza got his second.
