Bahrain captain Mohammed Salmeen will miss the Asian Cup tournament after breaking his leg in a friendly match with Jordan.
Bahrain coach Salman Sharida announced the news on Sunday. He says it's ''a huge loss for the team'' ahead of the tournament which starts Jan. 7 in Doha, Qatar.
The 30-year-old midfielder was injured during the Dec. 28 match against Jordan.
Bahrain was expected to be a contender for the Asian Cup, having just missed out on qualifying for the 2010 World Cup. However, other injuries include midfielder Hussain Salman who was ruled out of the tournament due to back strain.
