Adelaide United has hired Spanish-born Josep Gombau on a two-season deal, making him the third head coach at the A-League club in the last two years.

Gombau, who formerly worked as a youth coach at Barcelona and is currently head coach at Hong Kong first division champion Kitchee SC, is expected to join the Reds in July. Michael Valkanis remains as an assistant coach after serving as caretaker since John Kosmina quit in January. Kosmina was only in his second season after replacing Rini Coolen.

Adelaide confirmed the new appointed Tuesday. In a statement, Gombau said, ''football in Australia is growing and ... I see it as a very good chance to grow in my coaching and I hope me and the club together can make something nice by becoming champions in the A-League.''
