WATCH: D-backs prospect Oscar Hernandez saves minor league game with spectacular play

Diamondbacks catching prospect Oscar Hernandez saved the game for his High-A Visalia team on Wednesday, when an errant pitch got away from him with the tying run on third base in the bottom of the ninth.

Hernandez quickly recovered the ball near the on-deck circle and while parallel to the ground as he was falling down delivered a strike to pitcher Austin Wright, who applied the tag to the oncoming runner to end the game.

"1 of best plays to finish a 1-0 game I've ever seen!" Visalia pitching coach Jeff Bajenaru tweeted out.

"One of the best plays I've ever seen from a catcher!" tweeted Rawhide manager J.R. House.

Hernandez was a Rule-5 pick by the D-backs last season and thus had to remain on the Major League roster for the entire season or the team would have risked losing him to his former team, the Rays, though he wasn't developed enough for the big leagues. He played sparingly after a stint on the disabled list, and this season is hitting just .243 in 13 games. But at least he has this play to lean on for a little while.
