USC, UCLA women tied in Fall standings
The Capital One Cup (@CapitalOneCup) last week announced its fall standings, with USC and UCLA’s womens’ athletics program tied at No. 10 (15 points). The Trojans notched a top-10 finish in volleyball; the Bruins a top-10 in soccer. While both have a pre-season top-10 ranking in tennis, the UCLA women are currently ranked No. 14 in basketball, giving them the edge heading into the spring for the title of best program in the Southland. However, a national championship in track and field – a traditionally strong sport for the Ladies of Troy – might help put them over the top at the end of the year.
Nationally in the Capital One Cup, UCLA finished at No. 2 last year to Pac-10 rival Stanford, while USC came in at No. 7.
The total fall standings can be found at www.capitalonecup.com. The Capital One Cup is given annually to each of the best men’s and women’s Division I college athletics programs in the country, with Capital One awarding a combined $400,000 in student-athlete scholarships to the winner.
