Twins minor-league stars of the week: Aug. 7

Published Aug. 7, 2015 12:53 p.m. ET

This week's FOXSportsNorth.com minor-league Star of the Week is Rochester right fielder Reynaldo Rodriguez.

Rodriguez, a 29-year-old native of Cartagena, Colombia, has played for 11 different minor-league teams in his pro career, but appears to have found a suitable home with the Red Wings this season. The well-traveled Rodriguez has 64 RBI so far in 2015.

Here's a look at what Rodriguez and the rest of this week's minor-league stars did throughout the Minnesota Twins' farm system.

TRIPLE-A ROCHESTER

Player of the Week: RF Reynaldo Rodriguez

2015 stats: .270/.314/.465, 31 2B, 12 HR, 64 RBI

Recent highlights: Rodriguez has hit .381 over his last ten games and, over the past week, went 12 for 29 (.414) at the plate. On Wednesday, at Gwinnett, he went 3 for 4 with a pair of runs scored.

Pitcher of the Week: LHP Pat Dean

2015 stats: 8-9, 2.92 ERA, 135 2/3 IP, 82 K, 31 BB

Recent highlights: Dean, a former third-round draft pick out of Boston College in 2010, was razor sharp last Sunday against Syracuse. On that day, the 26-year-old southpaw threw a complete game, scattering four hits while striking out 10, as the Red Wings won, 6-0.

DOUBLE-A CHATTANOOGA

Player of the Week: CF Shannon Wilkerson

2015 stats: .299/.365/.345, 4 2B, 8 RBI in 22 games

Recent highlights: Wilkerson, 27, has hit .350 over his last 10 games (14 for 40). He has four multi-hit games during that stretch. His best recent effort: last Sunday at Jackson, when Wilkerson went 2 for 4 with two runs scored, an RBI and a walk.

Pitcher of the Week: LHP Brett Lee

2015 stats (overall in minors): 3-7, 3.58 ERA, 93 IP, 41 K, 32 BB

Recent highlights: Lee has been a tough-luck loser on multiple occasions this season, but not last Sunday. On that day, the 6-foot-4 lefty pitched six scoreless innings, allowing five hits and one walk, and striking out four. That performance helped the Lookouts secure an 8-2 win.

HIGH-A FORT MYERS

Player of the Week: 2B Anderlin Mejia

2015 stats: .236/.305/.303, 7 2B, 16 RBI in 49 games

Recent highlights: Mejia, a 23-year-old native of the Dominican Republic, started slow in 2015 but is making up for lost time in recent days. Mejia has batted .378 (14 for 37) over his last 10 games and, from Aug. 2-5, was red hot at the plate, going 8 for 14 (.571). Wednesday, versus St. Lucie, the second baseman went 3 for 4 with two RBI and a run scored.

Pitcher of the Week: LHP Corey Williams

2015 stats: 3-0, 2.05 ERA, 22 IP, 14 K, 1.14 WHIP

Recent highlights: Williams hasn't logged a lot of innings this season, but when he has taken the mound he has largely taken care of business. The 25-year-old, who was a third-round draft choice out of Vanderbilt in 2011, had two scoreless appearances on Aug. 2 and Aug. 4, going an inning each time and allowing just one total hit.

LOW-A CEDAR RAPIDS

Player of the Week: CF Tanner English

2015 stats: .262/.355/.398, 19 2B, 34 SB

Recent highlights: This speedy South Carolina product had a game he'll never forget Tuesday against Dayton. On that day, the 22-year-old went 5 for 5 with three RBI and two runs scored in the Kernels' 8-1 win. Over the past week, English hit .476 (10 for 21).

Pitcher of the Week: RHP Sam Gibbons

2015 stats: 5-2, 3.14 ERA, 57 1/3 IP, 41 K, 17 BB

Recent highlights: Last Saturday, in a 7-0 Cedar Rapids win at Kane County, Gibbons shined. The 21-year-old Australian recorded a complete game that day, allowing just four hits and one free pass while striking out a season-high nine. Good on ya, Mr. Gibbons.
